Image description
Over on the other side of the universe, the Cralon worker ants make their way home, guided by their guardians, the Mother ants. Their's is a hard day spent at the Cralogii Mother Hive, building new homes, harvesting sweetmeat for the gentry, and tunnelling - forever tunnelling. It seem's that they never stop. The Gentry are the Cralon Lords who's job it is to oversee the Mother Guardians and generally keep things running smoothly on the hive. They do a good job. They reside way up above Cralogii in what is known as the 'Outer-Grid', a relic from a previous time when another lifeform inhabited it.
Description of how this image was created
All meshes were made in Wings and converted through PoseRay into PoV-Ray. I originally had just one area light in this scene, but it looked kind of bland, so I ditched the area light and added five coloured 'looks_like' lights. Which makes it look surreal in a sci-fi way. The surface texture of the hive and spikes is the same, just a good image map of some dirt, and then bump-mapped with the same image. The same was done with the 'Outer-Grid', but with a different texture. The dust clouds by the ants feet are bunches of spheres textured with granite, (T_Grnt22a).

Comments by members when rating this image
1.   30-10-2007 I like the lighting and modeling. Stephen
2.   29-10-2007 I like the almost surreal lighting of the scene. I am not too sure about the dust clouds though. They are hardly visible as such. My impression was that the surface was a kind of velvety stuff.
3.   27-10-2007 It still feels like this image needs a little work on textures. It feels too "clean" still.
