A rather conventional SF plot as basis for the topic, but why not? Indeed, when working on the history of science, this is exactly what one does, although not with such high-tech tools ;-)

Indirectly you have made some interesting reflections on the nature and concept of time. Normally 'artifacts' represent things that have 'come down through' or survived time.
And the purpose of this particular scientific invention is the preservation of culture? Interesting.

15 for the walls on 'technical'. They remind me of some 3D maze games I've played in the past... But they work for your scene.

I lvoe the pixelated effect on the floor however am slightly confused as to the location of this machine as it looks almost cave like however the walls are too square. Nice picture though
