Image description
Two small excerpts from the book:
"The signal was given, and the two shots were fired at the same time. My first look was at Romayne. He took off his hat, and handed it to me with a smile. His
adversary's bullet had cut a piece out of the brim of his hat, on the right side. He had literally escaped by a hair-breadth."
"The duel had ended fatally. The chance course of the bullet, urged by Romayne's unpracticed hand, had struck the General's son just above the right nostril--had
penetrated to the back of his neck--and had communicated a fatal shock to the spinal marrow. He was a dead man before they could take him back to his father's house."
Description of how this image was created
With this image, I had to use a bit of artistic licence, namely changing the broken rim of Romayne's top hat to the left side instead of the right so that you could see it. I
used a lot of tools to produce this image. With Wings, I modeled the Timothy grass, the dueling pistols, top hat, the horse gig at the back, and the smoke from the pistols,
and various other little pieces. I also used Wings to edit the shirt and trousers of Romayne to make them more 1800's style. PoV-Tree was used for the trees and bushes,
Bantam3D for the grass and rocks, and Wilbur for the landscape. And of course, Poser models.
The explosions used on the pistols came from this useful 'site:
http://ghoulsblade.schattenkind.net/wiki/index.php/Povray
It's a 20Mb .zip file with a few thousand different explosions.
Lastly, I'd like to thank Samuel Benge and Tek for their great advice concerning the shadows in this, my first fog scene.
