Image description
'Upon that machine,' said the Time Traveller, holding the lamp aloft, 'I intend to explore time. Is that plain? I was never more serious in my life.' - The final of chapter 1: It is 1898, and the Time Traveller has taken his dinner guests to see The First Time Machine.
Description of how this image was created
This book made a huge impression on me and I really loved drawing this. H G Wells takes us to the Time Traveller’s laboratory to see the machine, but actually Wells doesn’t really describe the machine or even the laboratory. He does give us several clues though, and because of the book I imagine a time machine as something you sit on rather than a capsule you get into, and it does not fly around - the machine sits still as time changes around it. Here is The Time Machine as it exists in my mind. The scene is entirely modelled from scratch using basic POV-Ray constructs except for the human figures (which are Poser-PoseRay imports)

Nice chair!
Some grunge on the textures would really help sell this shot (e.g., the door) ,
Likewise, this render would greatly benefit from some radiosity to brighten up the shadows and fill lighting.

[SMcA] This workes for me, down to the nails in the floorboards. Just how I imagine the scene to be.

[ThomdeG] An excellent illustration of Wells' book indeed. The time machine is a perfect example of what a Victorian age machine should look like. The textures, overall, a a bit basic though. I also have doubts about the blueprints on the wall as they look too new, too printed, and not enough hand-drawn (which I would expect in an age without printers) and scribbled over. Concerning the figures, they are over-acting. Try to subdue the poses and expressions to get more real-life-like results.
