ULEMBASSA, Ghana. -- The Faster than Light has been rocketed light speed and reached its final time space target today to conclude the successful first demonstration of a bold new approach to faster then light travel, the re-usable space capsule.
Heralding its triumphant return with a sharp double light burst, one of technology's fanfares, the 12-foot-long Chronos shuttle appeared from the dark chromed tunnel, and touchedwith its circular wings its landing basement. Touchdown came at 1:21 .PM., Current segment standard time.
"Welcome home, Chronos!" was the simple message from Joseph Allen in Mission Control.
300000000 Meters in a Second
Capt. Robert L. Crippen of the UN Navy and John W. Young brought the 10-ton gliding vehicle with its amazing thoroidal wings to a smooth landing at a reduced speed of 12 meters a second, after having sepnd more then 2 days at light speed
Never before had a space vehicle returned to its time chanel in such a way so that it could be flown again. All the previous attempts has finished with damaged vehicles, when not lost in time space (see our previous article) The Chronos and its three sister ships now under construction are each designed for as many as 100 flights to and from the space frontier.
"It was really a tremendous mission from start to finish," said Young, the commander, in a brief post-landing appearance before officials of the United Nation Aeronautics and Space Administration.
Right on Course in Approach
Moments earlier, the Chronos had traveled over the last 20 last, and Mission Control reassured the astronauts that "we've got good data, looking good."
At 1:09,after a 2 weeks long acceleration the astronauts were advised, "You've got perfect energy, perfect ground track," meaning that they were on target and slowing for the kind of landing they had practiced so many times.
"What a way to come to present!" Captain Crippen exclaimed.
The Chronos was launched 6 months ago (the date has been kept confidential to avoid rumours of time pollution) at the Ulembassa Space Center in Ghana and orbited the 20 centurys of their time destination over a period of 2 weeks and a half. It was the first time travel test of the shuttle and the first time U.N astronauts had ventured into time space in nearly six years.
"I think we're back in the time space business to stay," Captain Crippen said.
The development of the Chronos, a hybrid time spacecraft-capsule, has cost almost billion since the project was initiated in January 4972. A fleet of four and perhaps five shuttles is expected to be in operation by the mid-4975's if the U.N next three test flights are equally successful. The shuttles, replacing the previous generation rockets and spacecraft that has caused so many material and human losses for very few time travel information payback.
Declaring that the Chronos had opened the "gateway" to many opportunities for time space travel, Dr. Alan M. Lovelace, acting U.N Time Agency Administrator, said, "I think this epic flight of Chronos proves once again that the U.N is No. 1."
After a preliminary inspection of the cpasule, Donald K. Slayton, the time flight test manager, reported that the condition of the spaceship appeared to be "pretty good." None of the almost 31,000 heat-shielding tiles that coated the shell was lost in the re-entry in time process. The delicate confidential alloy tiles gave developers some of their biggest headaches, and several were damaged during the time shifting.

Cool tech shot on the bottom half!
I didn't really like the "newspaper" part though (since it doesn't really look like a newpaper at all).

[SMcA] The machine is well constructed. I would have liked a bigger image of it.

[ThomdeG] Very well-conceived scene in an original setting. Much attention to details. Maybe the paper of the newspaper could be more wrinkly, yellower.
