Image description
After the disappearance of Man, Nature returns to business-as-usual. On the scale of the solar system’s evolution, Man is but a small interlude, soon forgotten, soon replaced. His works will gradually merge and disappear under a cloak of indifferent forgetfulness.
Description of how this image was created
The GeoControl program was used to generate the landscape with the ruins and the background. The complete view is a mosaic of seamless height_fields. Poser provided the animals and the water plants, while Arbaro generated the trees. The old vegetate.inc utility (1999) by Mark Wagner, updated to my needs, was used to distribute the water plants.
A note on the sky. The sky is composed of media clouds, following a code by Abe Madey. It was rendered separately as a very large image. Using the IC utility by Ive, the image was exported in .exr format to be used in a HDRI environment. Finally, the resulting image was projected as a spherical map in the present scene, which was rendered with POV-Ray 3.7 beta 32.
