Image description
I tried to get Chess off the board and into some new kind of view.
Description of how this image was created
The Cube: These are simple Cubes to which the subsurface modifier was applied. The White Fields are also cubes which are a little atop the black ones so the illusion of a white field is created. I could have done it with UV Texture Mapping, but my knowledge about it is not really good. The figures are rotational objects also with a subsurf modifier. The texture of the figures is the wood pattern built in blender with some noise.

1.   31-12-2008 This simple idea strikes home. I personally don't like the uniform black background though. We can barely read the black squares of the Rubik's. I would have tried a gray-scaled gradation as a more pleasant background.
2.   31-12-2008 Nice concept. I think the pawn should be biggert though.
3.   20-12-2008 An interesting "twist" on the subject! Could have been done better though; for example, choice of colors is problematic with respect to contrast (remember others may have different display settings or viewing conditions; background and dark figures are almost black here), and the wood is a bit too fine-grained for this resolution; the figures (especially the pawn) could have been a bit bigger.
4.   19-12-2008 Makes think ! Small Chess ! Big world .... Nic job i really liked it
5.   19-12-2008 Nice clean image. It'd be a completely messed up to play this game though.
