Image description
At the bottom of the ocean, so deep that even sunlight can't reach it, lies an undiscovered city. Who lives there? Why have they hidden themselves so far from the rest of humanity?
Description of how this image was created
The city's domes are scaled spheres; the support struts are CSG'd tori, and the tunnels cylinders. Each dome has its own circular area light inside. The sea floor is an isosurface blobbing together POV's f_spotted function with a simple plane. The water effect is done through a ground fog.

Comments by members when rating this image
1.   23-10-2008 Seems a little too simple. Cities can be hard to do. Especially when trying to do something majestic which I expect Atlantis to be.
2.   20-10-2008 The water is not entirely convincing. A media would have given a better effect, with the lights from the domes shining through it. Would have increased render time of course, but that would have been worth the while.
3.   20-10-2008 With some more work and time this could become really good. I feel that although it gives things a sense of scale, being so far from the majority of the detail detracts from the image. Additionally something that caught my eye is that the horizon can be seen through the fog which detracts from the appearance.
4.   14-10-2008 Sometimes when I think "artistic", I say to myself "Would I use it as a poster?". I definitely would with yours. I think it is soothing and appealing to the eye. Unfortunately, the topic is being less and less exploited. It was not "Once upon a time under the sea". Compare with "Turtle" and "Claustrophobia" for instance, they have very original interpretations, but still are perfectly on-topic.
5.   14-10-2008 Sorry pal - I only see SOME artificial structure amidst blotchy blue darkness. Even when you know it's a submerged city, its detailed structure is hard to grasp due to distortions and dubious light effects. Taking artistic license to NOT doing realistic refraction may have helped. And I guess making the light sources directly visible (catchword "looks_like") would have made some lighting effects easier to understand, too.
