Image description
The story came from the imagination of the man, and has been printed into a book that has become a living memory of the author.
This picture is in memory of Jules Gabriel Verne, the French author of "Vingt mille lieues sous les mers", which means "20 000 leagues under the seven seas."
Description of how this image was created
I started with the image of Jules Verne. Of course, I had to deal with a black&white photograph. I use a painter (Seashore) to add an alpha channel (for removing the background) and to color the skin.
Then I built the environment surrounding Jules Verne. I took care to blend the picture with the scene (the bottom of the body is 3D), trying to unify the look and feel.
The scene takes place in 1892. The "memory" of the then-old writer is composed of various pictures related to the story. Such a vision is cast from the photograph of Verne at a younger age. The octopus viewed through the porthole is blended with the blue of the cushion, the color of the seven seas of exploration.
When the Nautilus was about to resurface near Vulcania, it encountered a terrifying creature: a nautilus!
Top-center of the image is a representation of an actual gold coin which was minted in tribute to Verne. Also, if the curtains were open, we would see the complete original title page from the book. As we go toward the left side of the image, we can appreciate the picture "The Nautilus is my Boat", by Warwick Goble.
On the ground lie two copies of "The Extraordinary Voyages".
