Image description

Haiku by Kobayashi Issa, 1763 – 1827 :

O snail
Climb Mount Fuji,
But slowly, slowly!

Translated by R.H. Blyth.

Description of how this image was created

Often one image leads to another. In the Sphinx round I used an iso-surface sea which reminded me of a Japanese woodcut so I included a model of Mount Fuji. Which made me think of the Haiku by Issa. This image could be a Nengajo (a Japanese New Year Card).

The Japanese characters were pasted into a text box in Paintshop Pro and used as height_fields. The scene was composed in Bishop3D after importing one of Gilles Tran’s snails using PoseRay. And the body of the snail was textured with a combination of SSLT and absorbing media.

Comments by members when rating this image
1.   29-02-2012 Very nice :)
2.   22-02-2012 The way you wanted it is seriously perturbed by the automatic box framing of the web page. You could have gone with the "card" look (i.e. frame + slight paper texture), then there is no problem. But plain white background like that? The one-pixel-wide black rectangle quite hurts the effect.
