Image description

The floor of the ancient caldera is covered by wetland. This unique but treacherous terrain has been made accessible to visitors by installing an extensive network of walkways, leading to all the sites of Outstanding Beauty, as defined by the Council of Parse & Render.

Description of how this image was created

My original idea concerning On the Plains has been totally lost here, with the exception of the velocipede. The scene developed finally into two versions: this one, which is geographically consistent with the theme, and another one which will be made visible in the Forum and is more concerned with my investigations into the architecture of Etienne-Louis Boullée.

All figures and grass patches were modelled in Poser 7. Some figures may look familiar, like the gangling hippy walking his dog. He happens to walk quite often through my scenes since the first ever Tina Chep Challenge. The flying birds are based on a simple blob by Mick Hazelgrove. POV-Tree was used for the trees and Moray was used for modelling the man-made constructions. Geocontrol was used for the different landscape elements. Code by Kirk Andrews is kindly acknowledged for the planting of trees on the background mountains. PaintShopPro 8, and IC by LILYsoft (http://www.lilysoft.org/IC/ic_index.htm), were used for work on image maps.

This is Cathy’s World #9.

1.   30-10-2009 I appreciate the calm and peaceful atmosphere of the image very much. But to start my usual nitpicking: the man walking his dog is the 'darkest' element of the scene, this gives him a kind of focus he is not meant to have - I assume. (But maybe he is meant to be the 'dark element' and I do not get it?). -Ive
2.   18-10-2009 Certainly the most pleasant entry in this round. Good composition and attention to details. Two things hold you back from photorealism though: Brightness/contrast issues (the image appears slightly washed out to me), and the image appears too sharpto me; some very subtle focal blur might help, or maybe even just rendering at higher resolution and scaling down. - C.Lipka
