Image description

You were condemned to the Arrow of Time, many, many years ago. Oh yes, at first you laughed. It seemed so easy, to leisurely watch the hands turn round and round, winding down your time until, as you knew, they would stop, aligned towards the iron gate, which would then open to let you free.

But Time is a cruel master as you soon discovered. Seconds, Minutes, Hours, and even Days, were speeding happily round and round, endlessly round and round. But the Months were so slow! And the Years! Or the Lustrums! You could watch them carefully, oh so carefully. They did not seem to move. Were they broken…? You tried to ask the Keepers. They would not answer. You tried to climb the wall, but there was nothing to see, nothing to escape to. You tried to push the hands, but they were frozen.

And slowly you forgot about your crime. Gradually, you forgot about the world outside, as the world forgot also about you. You became obsessed with the Arrow of Time.

And so, Time winds slowly down, but you do not remember why anymore.

Description of how this image was created

.

The Arrow of Time clock and most of the props have been modelled in Silo2, with the exception of the metal drums which come from Poser. The prisoner, based on the Apollo Maximus character, has been posed in Poser7 and exported to POV-Ray with FlyerX’s Poseray.

Chris B’s Blockwall macro was used to build the prison’s wall.

A diffuse scattering media and radiosity were used in this final render.

1.   23-02-2009 Nice work.
2.   23-02-2009 Lovely story that fits perfectly with the image Thomas. I feel that the wall needs a lot of that sunshine on it. This would also cast some nice shadows from the pots and barrels in the background.
3.   18-02-2009 The execution looks flat a bit as if it were a preliminary version. I even feel that the fog shadowing clash with the basic rendering. I don't expect such a nice effect in that context. Your modeling is always very good (whatever tools or macros you use), but you should put as much emphasis on the shading and texturing steps. Your interpretation of the topic is pretty dark, but original and unexpected.
4.   18-02-2009 Tom at his best again; not much to criticize (except that I can't stand the almost Poe-ish gloom of the description) aside from the rope(?) which doesn't hang properly (should wrap more snugly around the bars); very well-draped "tent" cloth; Chris' blockwall macro literally "rocks" here. Lighting could still be improved a bit - I'd expect shadows behind the barrels and under the white pot.
5.   14-02-2009 I like the way the whole image has the same level or realism/unrealism - it's not photo realistic but it seems not to try to be - it just works.
