The only thing that confuses me with this image is the shadow behind the arm - it makes her look as though she's either lying on the ground or there is some kind of board behind her.

rendering artifacts are noticeable. It's very difficult to render natural looking humans. Eyes are a giveaway. Hair issue. Rather odd figure bend. My figure doesn't seem to be able to bend that way. Chess pieces just seem to be put there to fill a requirement.

I'd like to know how you did the hair but the parting lets it down a bit.

what happened to your shadows? Only her arm casts some, and they're not where we'd expect them. Using a sphere for the sky? Set it to ambient 1 diffuse 0 specular 0 so it won't collect shadows. Also make sure your camera and light source are not too close together, so we can see the shadow of objects which gives more depht to the image. Area lights are a good thing for adding realistic look, too.
Try improving the hand pose (observe yourself: exactly how would YOU hold a chess piece). Something to "stir up" the background would be good. Avoid shooting objects "head on" like you did with the other chess pieces - you're using 3D software, so show it off.
