Image description
The black knight confronts the white bishop on the way to becoming the master of the castle. The original idea was for a realistic scene and began with the horse head. However that didn't work so the scene became surreal. The knight is almost off frame. The castle has no entrance because it is symbolised by a chess piece. .... and so on.
Description of how this image was created
The board squares are height fields. The stone walls are isosurfaces.. The clouds are a photo. Everything else is simple CSG.

Refreshing concept. A bit flat on the rendering side though. I wonder what your knight would have looked like under true 3D lighting. Very good grass.

Quite a goog job on the horse, considering that it is pure CSG - and surprisingly good grass effect. The rest could be improved; e.g. the wall on the right side looks like made of bails of gray hay (your preference for noise kills here, I guess); the wall on the left would need some fill light (or radiosity) instead of ambient; the base of the tower ends too high up, leaving a dark gap between it and the path. The bishops geometry looks broken at the "cut" of his tiara, it is too small as compared to knight and tower to look like any sort of opponent - and it's actually a quite ugly chess piece :) Bottom part looks more like a rocket engine bell to me. Overall concept is rather conventional.

The inconsistent look is apparent which sort of detracts from the whole piece. I love the work on the grass though.
