Image description
While searching for a "contrast" idea I came across a photo of an Austin-7, also known as the "Baby Austin". It seemed to be in striking contrast to todays cars. The Baby Austin was first built in 1922. It was the minimum car without luxuries or safety features. You didn't need much mechanical knowledge or equipment to service it. I have positioned the cars to illustrate the contrast though in reality they would be illigally parked.
Description of how this image was created
Everything is CSG. The Austin 7 was modelled from a small photo. I have made the other cars to be typical of the cars that I see today rather than any models in particular. The final image used radiosity to improve the lighting though it doubled the render time.

1.   30-08-2008 What are you doing? There is no art in there... The concept is surprising though, very original. For technical, I give you the very nice modeling of the baby, etc. But I don't really consider that. I am looking for artifacts instead, and there are some. Firstly, you probably put too much ambient in the lighting term. It looks flat, we miss some depth and contrast. Secondly, the grainy effect is not appealing. The street texture for example has too-large spots and pixel-sized spots. There is no in-between frequencies, and it just doesn't work. Also, you could use other colors than red for the background cars. It sure contributes to the impression of flatness. Finally reduce the overall saturation, as the colors are slightly too bright, and please use soft shadows next time.
2.   28-08-2008 A nice piece of work and I especially love the details like Tina's restaurant. Clearly lots of hard work has gone in to produce this image. My only niggle would be that it would have been nice if the cars didn't look so intentionally in contrast, not sure how you would have accomplished that but just a thought.
3.   27-08-2008 Definately a contrast, and much different from most of the other entries. I like the basic composition of the image as well. And if those cars are all really CSG, you've done an excellent job there. Even if not, they are very good. The biggest problem I see is in the textures. Specifically, I see two general problems: too much noise and too much "waviness". The noise shows up in most of the textures, although I think with the cars it's mainly because of reflection. Generally, it seems to reduce the contrast and is just distracting. The waviness shows up on the road and in the windoews of the distant building. The road almost looks like it's water. The windows look like they're very old, but I'm guessing the building is supposed to be modern. It appears to be, anyway. Other than that, I think this is a very good image and well represents the topic. A little tweaking of the textures and I think it could be excellent.
4.   27-08-2008 Too much noise. Textureing isn't easy but this image uses textures that don't seem to vary much from the pavement to the curb to the sidewalk to the signs... The overall picture suffers for it. Details are inconsistent. You have very details vehicle models. Although I think the old austin may be simpler in detail than the other cars. The café and other elements are way simpler than the vehicles and they sort of stand out and feel outof place because of it. Too much ambient can ruin a picture. Let those shadows be dark. Behind the wheels and under the car, should be darker... IMO
5.   18-08-2008 Simple and effective. Well done indeed.
6.   17-08-2008 Terrific models of the cars. I bet they took a long time to build. They look professional, though. They also look rather like they are floating several inches off the ground. The whole picture appears rather grainy, although that looks like a personal choice rather than any kind of error. The reflective windows are a bit confusing for me, especially the picture (?) hanging in the restaurant. I like the contrast of old versus new, and I think TINA's restaurant is rather clever :)
7.   15-08-2008 The modellins of the cars is certainly well-done, and seems to reflect the author's love for them. Slightly more attention to the surrounding would (IMO) dramatically improve this image.
8.   07-08-2008 Good modelling but everything is too clean
