Image description
The following excerpts are taken from the so-called "Scrolls of the Wizard", a collection of hand-written sheets dated around the fifth century A.D., that was recently discovered after a cave-in unveiled a derelict castle dungeon at an undisclosed location. The text below was transcribed to modern english: "A week ago, while doing chores, i unearthed an old tome of papyrus bound in leather, filled with ancient writing and heathen drawings. Tonight I will, by and for myself, now try to conjure up an obedient genie as it seems to be described in the book. I chose the dungeons below the fallen fortress of [paper damaged]. No one ever goes there anymore." The next few pages were unreadable, on account of being covered in dust and ashes. The remaining pages are still inaccessible, since they are locked in their original fascicle, which has so far withstood all tries to unlock or open it. The coating, despite its verified high age, seems to be made from an unknown type of non-rotting, high-density carbon nanofibre material. Investigations continue...
Description of how this image was created
The storyline and storyboarding with pencil sketches started around June/July, together with building the new models (the capsule and launch bay, the dungeon and its decoration). The apprentice character (hands and head) was built from scratch at the beginning of August. The other models (Amurel, the cat, and Loa, the wing creature) and the spaceship corridors and decks have been under ongoing development for several years and had major revisions this time (e.g. dynamic clothing, wings rebuild, automated behaviours like blinking and brea...thing movements ;) ). Animation was done by first creating/timing a string of planned key poses and then one or more additional passes over time to refine movements. Time constraints resulted in some less-than-what-i-wanted fidgeting instead of fluidity... To a full-time artist, what i produced would be maybe something like previsualisation quality, if at all, and the story is cliche, but i had lots of fun putting this together. So - lower your standards, and enjoy!
